Day 06 (01-Apr-2018)

By 6AM got the bus infront of the hotel itself and it was quiet comfortable journey from Jaigaon to Siliguri. The bus driver was very much helpful and dropped us just infront of the shared taxi stand.

Our journey towards the “Queen of Hills” Darjeeling started in shared Taxi and paid Rs 150 per person.

Darjeeling is nestled among the rolling mountains in the Himalayan foothills at West Bengal at an elevation of 6700ft. Famous for Himalayan toy train, tea estate, Mt. Kanchenjunga peak view from road side, Tibetan influence in the craft and culture.

We stayed at Hotel Mount Himalayan Resort. After check in we had lunch at hotel and stepped out to explore the Darjeeling town. As suggested by one of my friend we took the hotel near MG road as we can cover the shopping places, Chowrasta and railway station access by walk. And it’s worth to explore the real charm of Darjeeling town by walk.

Places to see in Darjeeling:

Darjeeling Himalayan Railways / Toy train in Darjeeling :

Darjeeling Himalayan Railways is one of the UNESCO World Heritage site and booked the train tickets in advance through for first class to experience the spectacular views of Darjeeling town, valley and mountain. Its real fun to watch the train travel along the road side. We reached the Ghoom railway station which is located at 7400ft and one of the highest railway station in Asia and 2nd highest railway station in the World.

Ghoom Railway Museum:

Simple and small place for evening stroll, for a morning walk and just to sit and relax by watching the people around. There is an open theater with big screen, surrounded by shops on one side and valley on the other side. Lots of eateries around and don’t miss to taste the local food there.

Best place for shopping is MG road and lots of good winter wear is available at best price.

Happy valley tea estate

This is the  2nd oldest tea estate which is located 3 kms north of Darjeeling at 6900ft above sea level.

Our next day plan is to visit tiger hills to experience the Sunrise and the view of Kanchenjunga peak when the sun rays strikes the Himalayan mountains.

Near the railway station road, we met an elderly person at prepaid taxi stand and he suggested that around 4AM we can get shared taxi to go to Tiger hills view point and they will charge around Rs 200 – Rs 300 per person.
