Coorg is one more top tourist attractions in India and called as “ Scotland of India” , situated in Karnataka District. It’s suitable for leisure trips with family and adventure trips with friends. This hill station is famous for coffee plantation, cardamom and spices , located in the Western Ghats in India. Coorg is also called as Kodagu, Madikeri is the main town and Often called as ” Kashmir of Karnataka” for its cool climate between 15 to 20 throughout the year and mostly hills were covered by mist after monsoon. Best place to visit during summer also, the monsoon rains are pretty heavy and winter is right time to enjoy the mist and fogs on Coorg. How to reach Coorg :
Coorg is not connected by train or by Air. By two wheeler , car, van or bus we can reach Coorg from Mysore or Mangalore or Hassan . It’s well connected by frequent bus services from Mysore or Bangalore. One of my friend from Coorg told me that, the district is called as Coorg and it consists of several towns line Madikeri, Virajpet, Somwarpet, Kushalnagar, Ponnampet and Gonikoppal
Distance : Madeleri is 120 Kms from Mysore and 260 Kms from Bangalore

Home stay inside the coffee plantation is well-known in Coorg and plenty of home stays available. Whenever we visited Coorg, preferred to stay at home stay only to enjoy the authentic Coorg cuisine.
Places to Visit in Coorg
Raja’s Seat in Madikeri
Coorg Raja’s relaxation place to enjoy the Sunrise and sunset . Now it’s been well maintained as a park and a nice seating arrangement to enjoy the Sunrise and sunset. There is a small train ride and a musical fountain also available.This Raja’s seat in Karnataka is one of the best scenic views of the valley with 180degree view. When we went the entire valley was covered with mist and during sunset slowly the foggy clouds disappeared and we had a clear view of the valley and the Sunset. A nice place to sit and relax with family and Raja’s valley is one of the famous attractions in Coorg. This place is open from 6AM to 7PM and ideal time to visit is during sunrise & Sunset. It’s located in Madikeri town itself.
The falls is located in the foothills of Pushpagiri in Western ghats in Karnataka. The origin of Mallali waterfall is from Kumaradhara river and the height of the falls is around 200mts. Best time to Visit Mallali Falls is during monsoon from June to August and the water flow will be more .
How to reach Mallalli falls in Coorg
a) Bangalore -channarayapatna-arakalagudu-holenarsipura-somwarpet-Malalli falls.
b) Alternate route is Bangalore- Hunsur- Malalli falls.
How to Reach : 40 Kms from Madikeri & its about 25 kms from Somwarpet
Only few buses available to reach Hanchinalli which is the nearest village, so it’s advisable to travel by own or rented vehicle
For people not interested to walk can go by jeep till the check post point and only the steps part needs to descend.
Tips : Please carry rain coat , clothes for change , hiking pole , no foods available nearby, hence need to reach Chiguru home stay for food ( Food was hot & yummy ) . Small tea shop available at the check post near falls . Better to carry energy drink , water etc .

It’s a small island situated surrounded by Kaveri river and one more tourist attractions in Coorg, an ecological park is maintained in Nisargadhama which has boat ride, snake house , dear watching , Elephant ride . We need to cross the hanging bridge to access this place and filled with bamboo groves. This place is suitable to spend time with family and kids. Nisargadhama is located on the Kushalnagar to Coorg highways.
How to reach : 30 Kms from Madikeri and 3 Kms from KushalNagar.
Iruppu falls is located in Brahmagiri hills, one of the most popular waterfalls in Coorg and a well known tourist place in Karnataka. According to mythology, people say, Lord Rama and Lakshmana passed this Brahmagiri hill in search of Sitha, Lakshmana shot an arrow at this hill when his brother asked for water to drink and Lakshmana Thirtha was formed. This waterfall is situated in a thick forest of the Western Ghats , located 50 Kms from the Nagarhole National park. After crossing the hanging bridge, need to climb 200 steps to reach the water fall and need to walk less than one Km , carry extra clothes if you have planned to dip and Washroom facilities available, we are allowed to take bath in Iruppu falls. Please carry water and snacks.

Nagarhole National Park
The Nagarhole National park is located in Coorg district and Mysore, suitable for nature lovers and who prefers Safari ride, also known as Rajiv Gandhi National park and one of the well maintained National parks in India. People say earlier, it was a hunting place for the Maharajas of Mysore. In 1999 it was announced as tiger reserve area. Best time to visit Nagarhole is between September to May.
How to Reach : 95 Kms from Madikeri , 96 Kms from Mysore and 235 Kms from Bangalore
Golden Temple – Namdroling Monastery, Kushalnagar
The Buddhist Golden temple is constructed at Bylakuppe as a Tibetan settlement in Kushalnagar, and we can see Tibetan Monastery, University and temple and One more interesting tourist places in Coorg to see the Tibetan people, culture and architecture. We can visit this place throughout the month, better not to visit during prayer time and lunch time because entry is restored. Bit interesting to chat with the monks and they are very polite people. Inside the temple is very grand with 3 huge statues with 40ft height and called as Buddha, Padmasambhava and Amitayus.

Dubare Elephant Camp
It’s a training center for elephants by forest department and situated on the Cauvery river bank in Coorg district. Important attractions in Dubare Elephant camp are rafting in Cauvery river and elephant ride. The training camp is situated on an Island which is surrounded by Cauvery river and Elephants were trained here to participate in Mysore Dussehra festival. So most of the elephants won’t be there at this camp during Dusseshra. Boat ride and coracle ride, fishing, home made wines in different flavor, coffee plantations are the other attractions in Dubare
Timings : 9AM to 11:30AM and 4:30PM to 6:30PM.
How to Reach : 30 Kms from Madikeri and 15 Kms from Kushal Nagar
Harangi Dam is located in Hudgur Village, Somwarpet in Coorg. Best time to visit is during monsoon. Its built across river Harnagi which is a stream of Cauvery river in Hudgur village, Well maintained garden in front of the dam attracts lots of crowd to relax and enjoy . This dam was built for hydro power production and irrigation. We visited this place on the way back to Bangalore from Mallai falls . Worth to spend 2 hours time and very small shops only found hence please carry snacks and water bottles.

Talacauvery / Talakaveri
Talacauvery is situated 9Kms from Bhagamandala, and it’s the origin place / birthplace of river Cauvery. Located on the slopes of Brahmigiri mountain ranges and most famous attraction in Coorg. When we visited during July month, the entire hill station was covered with mist and was a special treat for the eyes and soul when we watch the misty clouds in the backdrops. It’s almost 1200 Kms above sea level. Its an important pilgrimage place in Coorg.
How to Reach : 45 Kms from Madikeri
Bhagamandala Temple, Triveni Sangama
Sri Bhagandeshwara temple located near Triveni Sangama and its famous pilgrimage place in Karnataka. Triveni sangama means three rivers meeting together, river Cauvery and River Kannika are joining at this place and its believed that river Sujyothi joins at the same place from underground. Bhagandeshwara temple is constructed in Kerala style architecture. Lord Shiva, Subramanya, Ganesh and Mahavishu temples are situated inside.
How to Reach : 36 Kms from Madikeri
Abbey Falls, located in Coorg district, Karnataka and one more famous place in Coorg to visit and this waterfall is also in Western Ghats. We need to walk through the coffee plantation to reach the waterfall. Once we cross the hanging bridge to have an amazing view of the waterfall. Also known as Abbi falls and located within the coffee plantation and pepper vine. The best time to visit Abbey falls is after Monsoon to watch the gushing water flow and beware of the leeches during monsoon and be prepared. Not advisable to take a dip in this waterfall.
How to Reach : 36 Kms from Madikeri
One of the best tourist attractions in Coorg is Mandalpati and suitable for trekkers, valley lovers, mist admirer and who prefer bumpy rides . 4Kms before Abbi falls need to take a right to reach Mandalpatti, situated at an altitude of 4040 feet and part of Pushpagiri reserve forest. Mandalpatti means “Market of Mist/ clouds” and named very aptly, because every now and then the misty clouds will cross us and we will just disappear in middle of the clouds . Twice have been there and just loved the place because it very less crowded and we can feel the clouds when it touch us / cross us.
From the base camp we can either go by own two wheeler and its bit difficult ride due to mud path and absolutely no road. Lots of jeeps available and they take us in jeep, leave us there for 45 Mins to 1 hour and drop us back in base camp / check post. One of the best unexplored place in coorg and suitable for 2 day trip from Bangalore to Coorg.
Tips : Don’t opt for too old jeep, because it will trouble a lot in between.
A beautiful trail for trekkers and while returning, half the way we started to walk and thoroughly enjoyed the walk.
How to reach : 20 Kms from Mandalpatti . First 17 KMs we can go by our own vehicle and last 3 KMs thru forest department jeeps.
Kutta in Gonikoppal
Kutta is located in Gonikoppal taluk bordering the Nagarhole National Park and Wayanad Wildlife sanctuary . Best place for homestay to stay with a nature backdrop in spice garden, coffee estate and wildlife adventure. With guidance for the localities, we can for a trek in Brahmagiri hills.
Lots of places to hang around and need to trek a bit to reach Chellavara falls . Best time to visit is after monsoon, but not advisable to dip in the water. Localities confirmed its very dangerous to get into gushing water
