Day 08 (03-Apr-2018)

Tsomgo Lake

The local cab driver who dropped us in Hotel Helia helped to get the permit for Tsomgo Lake and to reach the shared taxi stand to head towards Tsomgo Lake. Need to submit 2 photos and one ID proof to get permit.

Also called as Changu lake is a freezing lake in East Sikkim and 40Kms from Gangtok and located at 12,310ft above sea level. The interesting fact is the climate was keep changing every hour from mild sunny weather, cold wind, mild to heavy snow fall. So please be prepared with layers of warm clothes and highly recommend to get the boots for rent to get into the knee level snow to play, slide in snow.

Reflection of the surrounding hills is just breathtaking. Our cab driver allowed us for more than an hour to play in snow and for photo shoot. The excitement level gone high when we stepped into knee level snow.

Yak ride is available for Rs 800 and Rs 100 for click picture alone. They also rent Sikkim traditional dress for rent at Rs 50 to click pictures to preserve as life time remembrance. We spent almost more than an hour and the cab person allow us to spend enough time. Don’t miss the hot momo, soup and noodles on the way to beat the chilliness.

Tips: Left hotel by 7:30AM and reached the taxi stand by 7:40AM. Journey in shared taxi started by 8AM and always go early to get the first 2 seats to enjoy the view. Took 2 hours to reach Changu lake, better to go early to enjoy the changing climates and people said before noon only permit is allowed.

Cost: Rs 500 per person round trip from Gangtok – Tsomgo lake -Babamandir- Gangtok
