Mallalli waterfalls, Coorg
The falls is located in the foothills of Pushpagiri in Western ghats in Karnataka. The origin of Mallali waterfall is from Kumaradhara river and the height of the falls is around 200mts. Best time to Visit Mallali Falls is during monsoon from June to August and the water flow will be more and a must visit waterfalls near Bangalore.
How to reach Mallalli falls in Coorg
- a) Bangalore -channarayapatna-arakalagudu-holenarsipura-sowmarpet-malalli falls.
- b) Alternate route is Bangalore- Hunsur- Malalli falls.
Distance: 40 Kms from Madikeri & its about 25 kms from Sowmarpet
Only few buses available to reach Hanchinalli which is the nearest village, so it’s advisable to travel by own or rented vehicle. For people not interested to walk can go by jeep till the check post point and only the steps part needs to descend.
Ukkada Waterfalls, Muthodi Forest | 285Kms from Banglore
Ukkada Waterfalls is situated inside the coffee plantations on a private property and we need to go through Muthodi forest. We entered the Bhadra Wild life sanctuary, need to drive more than 1Km to reach the home stay.From the home stay again need to walk through the coffee plantations and need to cross a stream. Take the right side path to reach the waterfall and it took one hour to reach the waterfall. Beyond a point we can’t travel by 4 wheelers.The trekking trail is very steep and narrow where in we need to crawl and go in a few places to reach the unexplored Ukkada Waterfalls near Bangalore.
Hogenakkal Waterfall, Dharmapuri District, Tamilnadu
River Cauvery after winding its way from Karnataka, enters Tamilnadu and falls down as a huge waterfall in Darmapuri district. Hogenakkal means smoky rock, and best time to visit this place is after monsoon , called as “ Indian Niagara” and river Cauvery splits into multiple streams.
To view the full waterfall need to opt for a boat ride, coracle ride is famous activity here . Separate sections available for gents and ladies to take a bath in the falls after descending few steps. Oil massage and fish fry also famous here. After crossing the bridge if we walk down a little further we can find places to play in the water . Suitable for trekking in the surrounding area near the waterfalls. Good place to visit for a day trip from Bangalore. Also, people believe that the waterfalls have medical healing power as it flows through forest plants and trees.
Tips : No good food joints available here, hence better to carry lunch and snacks. Dress changing place is also available . People used to buy fresh fishes and cook there itself

Abby Falls / Abbey Falls , Coorg
Abbey Falls, located in Coorg district, Karnataka and one more famous place in Coorg to visit and this waterfall is also in Western Ghats. When we went it was bit crowded and couldn’t find a place to sit and relax. We need to walk through the coffee plantation to reach the waterfall. Once we cross the hanging bridge to have an amazing view of the waterfall. Also known as Abbi falls and located within the coffee plantation and pepper vine. The best time to visit Abbey falls is after Monsoon to watch the gushing water flow and beware of the leeches during monsoon and be prepared. Not advisable to take a dip in this waterfall.

Iruppu falls is located in Brahmagiri hills, one of the most popular waterfalls in Coorg and a well known tourist place in Karnataka. According to mythology, people say, Lord Rama and Lakshmana passed this Brahmagiri hill in search of Sitha, Lakshmana shot an arrow at this hill when his brother asked for water to drink and Lakshmana Thirtha was formed. This waterfall is situated in a thick forest of the Western Ghats
